Exceptional dry matter yields and very good forage quality make LG Highlight the stand-out new entry from Limagrain Field Seeds on the 2027 BSPB forage maize Descriptive List.
Featuring strongly in the Short-Mid Season category (formerly Less Favourable), the early maturing LG Highlight has an outstanding dry matter yield of 19.0t/ha and an ME yield of 220,000MJ/ha. Strong agronomic characteristics are led by an unrivalled standing power rating of 8.2.
Showing great promise in trials and good performances in the field throughout the recent challenging growing season, LG Highlight heralds a new generation of climate resilient varieties coming forward from Limagrain’s robust and extensive maize breeding programme, which includes comprehensive UK screening and testing.
“LG Highlight will have broad appeal to maize growers from all parts of the UK,” says Tim Richmond, Maize Manager for Limagrain Field Seeds UK and Ireland. “It has been standing out in trials for a number of years, and has really proven its value in the field throughout what has been a very testing season this year.
“Limagrain’s long term maize breeding goals take account of the changing climatic conditions faced by farmers, and LG Highlight is one of the first varieties coming forward that reflects this shift in emphasis.
“With continued progress of this kind, maize will continue to be a robust and resilient crop that more and more UK farmers can rely on, even in the more challenging seasons.”
Also new from Limagrain onto the BSPB Descriptive List for 2027 are LG 31.160 and LG 31.208, both high yielding and included in the Mid-Long Season category (previously Favourable).
“LG 31.160 is a specialist grain maize variety, but demonstrates its versatility and dual purpose capabilities by being included on the Descriptive List for forage,” adds Mr Richmond. “LG 31.208 is another high yielder, with great quality, that will perform reliably in either a forage or AD context.”
