• Support the implementation of effective purity systems for Y1 and Y2 barley generations.
• Plan and prepare purity activities to minimise contamination and outcrossing.
• Assess barley DUS (Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability) characteristics.
• Harvest, thresh, clean, process and prepare seed for subsequent generations.
• Record phenotypic traits and field observations accurately within the Breeding Operating System (BOS).
• Work closely with the barley breeding team to coordinate activities, timelines and seed requirements.
• Assist with the management and maintenance of purity plots and nurseries.
• Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the micro-malting laboratory.
• Conduct micro-malting analyses in accordance with established protocols and breeding programme requirements.
• Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated and fit for purpose.
• Generate accurate and reliable analytical data to support breeding decisions.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate record keeping.
• Good organisational and planning skills.
• Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Agriculture, Horticulture, Biological Sciences, Crop Production, Plant Science, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
